Crystal Studies

Crystallising ASMR videos, extruding frames of a video through time into tangible spatial forms, collapsing the linearity of video into a single navigable object. The volumes are fractured into crystal like structures, each shard preserving moments of time where frames from the video blend together as vivid, stratified layers.

Rendered in Houdini/Karma.

Kinetic Sand ASMR videos from sandclaraASMR.
`(1)    Video is extruded through time from image sequence into 3D volume.

(2)    The volume can then be used to sample onto geometry from the position of the volume relative to the geometry in 3D space.

(3)    Example of volume being sliced through, producing slitscanning effect as layers interpolate between each other.

(4)    Example of UV texture following slicing.

(5)    The field can then be fractured creating crystal like structures, these have been sampled from the geometries position relative to the volume.

(6)    Example of how the angular form creates distortions once the extrusion has been projected.

(7)    Here we can see the distortions when projecting the volume onto an animated mesh. This colour data is read in shader to assign material properties.

(8)    Example of some of the slices and their reference to the original video as the mesh deforms within the volume.
